From the producer of the Wine Spectator’s 2009 #1 wine, Columbia Crest delivers a classic Merlot with this “Grand Estates” series.
The Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot 2006 is mainly elaborated from Merlot 85% but also from Syrah 7%, Cabernet Franc 5% and Cabernet Sauvignon 3%. The oak feature a quarter of new French and American oak barrels. This Merlot was aged 14 to 16 months before been bottled.
The color is dark and intense. The nose is fruity and woody. On the palate, a recall of the nose aromas added with spices, oak and cocoa flavors. The Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon contribute to softness and to add fruitiness. Strong tannins, a quite full-bodied mouth and a long finish.
Paired with confit duck, guinea fowl with mushroom sauce and game terrine.
Serving temperature: 16-17 °C (61-63°F)
Ready to drink now or cellar until 2011
